It's tatted in Lizbeth size 40, Spring Garden and White. It definitely needed blocking after Round 2 because the doily was ruffling quite a bit. Luckily, Round 3 was a lot easier and didn't pose any problems. Here is the finished doily on a black background:
As I was tatting the doily, I kept wondering if Lizbeth thread was too stiff for the project. This seems to happen mostly with white thread, and I don't notice it too much with the colors. Next time I tat something from this book I might try using DMC Cordonnet Special to see if it makes a difference.
That is so beautiful!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteOh it's adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you Siri. Love your vintage sewing projects BTW :)
DeleteI love this book too and your doily is wonderful. I have not been tatting much or blogging too, got side tracked with an old memory.
ReplyDeleteOh, but you have so many crafts that you are good at. It's nice to see the variety of things that you come up with!
DeleteI don't have this book, but that doily looks so beautiful and I think it's a book to add to my wish list.
ReplyDeleteGo for it! This book is rather inexpensive, more so if you get a used copy.
DeleteVery pretty! Now I'm tempted to pull my copy of the book off the shelf!
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane! You should tat something from this book, lots of little gems inside.
DeleteIt is so beautiful with the colors!
ReplyDeleteThank you Marja!
DeleteBeautifully done in wonderful colors! Very nicely tatted! You and Frivole are bringing about renewed interest in this classic book that many tatters have, but which just sits in their collections. I always display it at our events, especially to show the amazing portraits of 'high society' ladies from long ago posing with their 'knotting' shuttles. The designs in the book are excellent, but definitely come to life with modern photography, and are enhanced, as in this case, with variegated threads.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy! It is nice to bring back older patterns once in a while :)
DeleteWonderful Robin! I see what you mean about the chains though and how they would need coaxing into place. Often happens with older tatting designs I find... although this one is not very very old.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joëlle! I've found that making chains with no tension sometimes helps in these older patterns. Unfortunately, I pulled the core thread just a little bit and they all went out of place!
DeletePiękna serweta. Ja z tej książki robiłam śnieżynki i wyszły super.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, the snowflakes in this book are nice too.
DeleteBeautiful! And look at all of those long chain segments--so wonderfully even. That's a feature of a number of the patterns in that book which is why I haven't finished tatting very many of them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eliz! Yes, there are several patterns in this book where the chains need to be blocked into place. However, what bothered me more was that this pattern seemed to take forever to finish. I think I've gotten spoiled by too many small projects. Don't know how you ladies manage to finish the really large doilies!
DeleteSo dainty, fresh & pretty !!! I bought the book solely for the Lucky Clover Doily & am still nowhere near starting it ;-P
ReplyDeleteThanks muskaan. Took my book out to find the Lucky Clover Doily. Looks pretty straight forward but it would take a while to complete. Don't blame you for putting it off :)
DeleteVery beautiful in this colours!
ReplyDeleteThank you Corina :)
DeleteVery pretty. I like the combination of white and multicolour thread.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane!
DeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteI have this book but have not look at ithe patterns there for quite a while. I think it must because the instrutions really need to be studied carefully to be abel to tat them. I had to modify the few that I have attempted earlier to proceed with the tatting.
Still there are some lovely patterns in there.
Thanks Jon! Yes, these patterns do need to be carefully studied to make sense of them. It took me about an hour to read over this pattern and create a hand drawn diagram. It was well worth it though, as the tatting went very smoothly afterward.
