Works in Progress

I've had a very busy week which means I don't have any new tatting to show. I noticed a few bloggers have been posting projects that they call UFOs or Works in Progress, and I thought "I have some of those!" I usually stick to small motifs, so I don't have too many projects that need to be completed, but I do have two larger doilies that I have set aside for 6 months to a year. I do plan to get back to them eventually!

The first is from Jan Stawasz's Tatted Treasures. I believe it is Doily I, but my tatting books are packed away at the moment so I can't double check. Anyhow, it's the doily on the cover of the book. This is how far I was able to get before setting it aside:
Tatted in Lizbeth size 40 white
As you can see, it's getting to be too big to photograph on my card stock. The next round is 25 individual motifs...lots and lots of ends to hide. Here's another picture from above:
The next project is something I was working on designing, from my Mirror, Mirror post. I got distracted by the idea of connecting the motifs together to create a larger doily, but I only got 4 motifs out of 7 done before I moved on to another design idea.
Tatted in Lizbeth size 40 white and green coral sea
I still want to tat the final three motifs and connect them to the bottom, and then add an edging around the doily. Individually, the motifs are appropriately sized for a coaster.

I have a lot of tatting to do before I can get back to these projects. The Stawasz Mega Doily will keep me busy for a long, long time.

  1. The doily looks awesome! I love the motifs you've joined together. It would make a great tablecloth or if you have the patience, a bedspread! I can imagine it as a bedspread..so beautiful.

    1. Thank you! I'm afraid I wouldn't have the patience for that these days, lol. Makes me wonder how I ever crocheted so many blankets!

    1. These are both Lizbeth size 40. I'll get the laptop out later tonight so I can add that detail and the color information as well.

    2. I read it again and I see where you said size 40. You know I also like that you put white with the variegated, I always put a solid with variegated but I don't think I have used white, that really looks nice!

    3. I just edited the post to include the size information, it wasn't there before :) the white with green coral sea is an idea I took from Elena's work, she used the same color scheme in the doily from my previous post.

    1. Thanks muskaan! I do have a working diagram (minus the thrown rings) but never got around to posting the pattern for the second WIP. If it's something you'd like to make, let me know and I can finalize it for posting.

    2. That is so good of you, Robin ! Yes, I would Definitely make it if you posted it here ..... I have an ongoing 'project' on coasters simply as a means to try out new patterns/motifs :-) However, there is absolutely no hurry ; I am already juggling a lot of things (some are WIPs in sewing) & no new tatting is being done for the present :-(
Haven't been able to concentrate on Inkscape, either, despite your prompt & detailed help . New learning has been shelved at present :-(

  4. Both are gorgeous, they both will be wonderful when finished. Your motif doily looks lovely and I like the way you have used the colours. They would make lovely coasters too.

    1. Thanks Marla! I'm thinking of adding just one more round to finish off the look, which could double as a border to the larger mat. Got it planned out, just need to make it happen. I'm sure I will get the pattern posted long before the mat is complete, so it will be instructions for a single motif, which can be connected together as desired. It will go in the free patterns section and I'll make a post about it when it's ready.
