My first guess was a mat. But perhaps it's part of tatted box - the lid ?Will watch out :-D

All good guesses! It can be made into a mat, a square doily, and a tablecloth. However, it falls more into the realm of "design concept" rather than finished product.
Loved the square Robin. Perfect design. You can add more to this to make round or a diamond.
