I adjusted the stitch counts for the midline of my table runner, and I think I found something that will work. It's very close, so I should be able to block it into place if needed. I've now started on the actual runner. I had to coil the long end to take a close up photo (looks like coiling a tatted edging could make a flower too):
It's going to be a very long project, and I need to make around 500 of the trefoils. So far I have 25 of them. I began in the middle of the table and then worked my way to the edge before turning. If the table didn't have a line down the middle, I would have started from one end and worked my way to the other end.
I want the runner to drape so that's why the sample hangs over the edge. This end will taper into a point instead of running straight across. More on that as I continue with the project:
O wow ! Can't say that I am waiting with bated breath, though figuratively I will be :-D
ReplyDeleteYou are indeed ambitious and the end lace will be worth every moment, every trefoil.
It's going to be beautiful!

Ooooh - that will take awhile, but it will be so beautiful! I don't dare start anything that large as it would get put away and never finished, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteCindy, I also have some large projects that I've put away, so I'm afraid of that as well! For this project, the fact that I don't know how the finished runner will look will probably keep me motivated. I like the mystery of watching a design unfold in front of me.
ReplyDeleteI just saw a Video of a lady making a straight line of lace and she wrapped it around her wrist as she tatted, this made me think of it. I love your designs and I will be returning to one of yours hopefully soon but you keep making more I wonder which to start first😉 I love this little clover that is tatted around its super cute🌹❤🌹
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be super awesome!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteFinally someone making something as big as the tablecloth I am working on, but thankfully you are smarter than me and using a continuous design instead of single motifs(I haven't gotten smart enough to use split rings and chains, but that's ok. ;)
I am keeping a close eye on yours and maybe it will be a future project if you sell your pattern!! :)
Wow! That will be quite an undertaking! I will watch your progress with great interest.
ReplyDeleteCarollyn, I may have to resort to that, or put the lace in a ziplock bag while I'm tatting. It's already getting unwieldy and I've barely started!
ReplyDeleteSue, I've seen your tablecloth and you are getting pretty far along. It looks lovely, nothing wrong with putting smaller motifs together. Though my table runner is done in one pass, I'll still have a good amount of ends to hide, each time I run out of thread on my shuttles.
Looks great so far :). Looking forward to more progress pics :).
ReplyDeleteWow, This is a great project and a lot of work, it's going to be a beautiful runner when you have finished it.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your progress
I'm glad you found a good solution for the table runner. It is looking very good already. But 500 trefoils... that is a lot of work. I hope you will keep motivated to finish it.
ReplyDeleteI love large projects! Immensely enjoyed tatting a bed cover (I didn't have access to Internet or a camera back then, unfortunately) and a table runner a long while ago. It's soothing IMHO. And I'm sure yours will be beautiful. Following your progress!!!
ReplyDeleteKaren, you have completed several amazing projects. I hope I have the patience to get through this table runner! So far, it is really relaxing to tat.
ReplyDeleteWow! That will be quite an undertaking! I will watch your progress with great interest.
