Braids

I haven't had the chance to go to the store to buy any stiffening products for my tatted box yet. Maybe I'll have some time this weekend to test out some glues and other stiffeners on my tatting scraps. I've got a box full of scraps so I have plenty to work with.

I did manage to finish some other experimental tatting, similar to the "Braids" found in Mary Konior's books. I've always wondered how she designed these patterns and wanted to try it out myself to see if I could understand how it was done. These are pretty basic and were put together last night as a test:

They are my own little designs and I've tried to emulate Mary Konior's style. I'd like to experiment more to see what other things I can come up with. I also noticed that Mary Konior uses ring formations to make tatted squares and hexagons. I think that would be worthwhile to look at as well.

In other news, Billy turned 10 on Tuesday (February 28). That's about 80 in human years! Here he is with a cupcake. We don't allow him to eat them but luckily he had no interest in it anyways :)

Very interesting tatting!! I can't wait to see what you make with it, or something new either way!! :)
When I looked at my reading list it said Braids and it showed the picture of the bunny and I was wondering how you braided the bunny's hair. Now it makes sense! :) Happy Birthday to your bunny!! :) Funny, your bunny is named Billy, mine was named Baby. :)

Strange, I thought blogger only showed the first photo, but I guess I have noticed a few posts where the second photo showed instead. If Billy's fur was longer I'd probably have tried to braid it at least once :)

Lot of possibilities! Congratulations to Billy! Love the idea of his hair being braided.

I remember the pattern and like your lower trial better - more proportioned. Eager to see more :-)
You've up"braid"ed dear Billy so much that now he doesn't like his treat ;-P

Yes, I like that one better as well, and it's also easier to make. 4 stitches between every picot (small rings are 4-4-4, large rings are 4-4-4-4). Most of the joins are visible if you enlarge the photo (but the joins I made to bare thread spaces might be a little more difficult to see).

Lovely tatting, and I also like the lower version best on it's own. Although the top one would look great with beads on those outside picots. Give the bunny a cuddle for me, he looks so soft, and getting to 10/80 is quite the accomplishment!

A very Happy Birthday to your dear fluffy friend. I didn't know rabbits lived that long. He looks very healthy and happy!

I like the braids. For some reason they remind me of butterflies. And happy birthday to your bunny. :)
